COMUS AVENUE ASCOT NEW BUILD
WINNER: 2021 HIA Residential Building Designer of the Year
HONOURABLE MENTION: AIA 2020 Residential Architecture - Houses (New)
Comus Avenue is an award-winning residential project defined by its response to site, scale, and uninterrupted views across the Brisbane skyline.
Positioned on a prominent corner block in Ascot, the design capitalises on its elevated outlook, with all primary living spaces and multiple bedrooms oriented toward the city. The architecture is shaped by this relationship to view, light, and openness, creating a home that is both expansive and controlled.
The built form is expressed through strong, deliberate geometry. Clean lines and balanced proportions establish a confident architectural presence, while maintaining sensitivity to the surrounding streetscape. The result is a home that is both distinct and grounded within its context.
Internally, the project is organised to support both scale and flow. A double-height void anchors the main living area, introducing volume and natural light, while a sequence of interconnected spaces allows for both openness and separation. The home accommodates a complex brief, including multiple living zones, a cellar, media room, and underground parking, without compromising clarity of planning.
Materiality is restrained and cohesive, reinforcing the architectural intent. A limited palette allows form, proportion, and light to define the experience of the home, rather than relying on overt expression.
Comus Avenue has been recognised through multiple industry awards, including the 2021 HIA Residential Building Designer of the Year and an Honourable Mention at the Australian Institute of Architects 2020 Residential Architecture Awards (Houses – New), reflecting its contribution to contemporary residential design.
