MOSCONI RESTAURANT & bar EXPANSION
Mosconi is a refined hospitality venue set within a distinctive heritage structure in Fortitude Valley, where architecture and atmosphere are carefully balanced to support a considered dining experience.
Occupying a converted World War II igloo building just off James Street, the project works within an inherently constrained and character-rich form. The design response is measured, allowing the existing structure to remain legible while introducing a contemporary layer that enhances function, flow, and ambience.
Internally, the architecture is shaped by restraint. Spatial interventions are deliberate and minimal, focusing on proportion, alignment, and material consistency rather than overt expression. The result is an environment that feels calm and resolved, providing a quiet counterpoint to the energy of the surrounding precinct.
Lighting plays a central role in defining the experience of the space. Soft, controlled illumination reinforces intimacy, while subtle shifts in tone and intensity guide movement throughout the venue. Material selection is equally considered, with a muted palette that supports cohesion and allows the focus to remain on the experience rather than the architecture itself.
The project required a careful balance between preservation and intervention. Existing elements are retained and respected, while new insertions are precise and understated, ensuring the building evolves without losing its identity.
Mosconi has become one of Brisbane’s most regarded Italian dining destinations, recognised for both its atmosphere and experience, and featured across leading local lifestyle publications.
