PINE MOUNTAIN ROAD, HOLLAND PARK
Pine Mountain Road is a dual-residence project that explores contrast and cohesion within a single subdivided site. Designed as two distinct homes, the project adopts a “Yin and Yang” approach, where each residence expresses an individual architectural language while maintaining a considered relationship to the other. The intent is not replication, but balance—allowing difference to define the composition while ensuring a cohesive overall outcome.
The planning responds to the constraints of subdivision, carefully positioning each dwelling to maximise privacy, light, and outlook without compromising the integrity of the neighbouring residence. Orientation, setbacks, and openings are resolved to create separation where required, while maintaining a sense of connection across the site. Architecturally, the two homes are deliberately differentiated through form, materiality, and expression. This contrast is controlled rather than competing, allowing each residence to retain its own identity while contributing to a unified streetscape.
Despite their individuality, both homes are underpinned by a consistent approach to proportion, planning, and spatial clarity. This ensures the project reads as a cohesive architectural response rather than two unrelated outcomes. Currently under construction, Pine Mountain Road will demonstrate a considered approach to multi-residential design, where contrast is used as a tool for composition rather than conflict.
