We were honoured to have Chester House featured on Dream Homes Revealed Australia — a project that means a great deal to our team, not just for its design complexity but for the longstanding relationship behind it.
This home is the latest in a series of collaborations with a remarkable client, one we’ve had the privilege of working with multiple times over the past decade. Their impeccable taste, strong vision and willingness to push boundaries have shaped some of our most memorable work, and Chester House is no exception.
We’re deeply appreciative that they allowed this project to be filmed and shared with a broader audience. Opening your home to cameras is no small gesture, and it speaks volumes about the trust and mutual respect built over time.
A home grounded in legacy and light
Located in Teneriffe, Chester House began as a 110-year-old Queensland cottage in need of both restoration and reinvention. After a series of unsympathetic renovations, the home had lost its charm — disconnected from the yard, poorly oriented, and lacking cohesion.
Our approach was to honour the original character while introducing a warm Mediterranean sensibility that speaks to the clients’ heritage. The result is a home that balances restraint with drama, and form with feeling.
The entry unfolds gradually: from a private outdoor vestibule to a timber-lined cellar room, and then into a dramatic, double-height dining space that wraps around a central pool. Arched windows flood the interior with light, while a curved stair leads to the private bedroom level housed within the restored cottage form.
A pool that anchors space and story
At the heart of Chester House is its pool — not just as a feature, but as a structural and emotional anchor. Inspired by Roman bathhouses, the pool sits beneath robust concrete columns and is visible from multiple rooms. Its presence brings rhythm, calm and a deep sense of connection to the architecture around it.
Externally, the home is a quiet composition of weatherboard, Mediterranean-style render and climbing greenery, sitting comfortably within the streetscape while offering something entirely personal within.
